PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The men's soccer team improved to a 7-3-3 record after shutting out Edgewood College, 3-0, at home on Tuesday night.
The win marks the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneers' sixth win in their last eight games and puts them at an impressive 4-1-1 record when facing opponents at Pioneer stadium.
A well-balanced team effort allowed the Pioneer offense to attempt 14 shots on goal while the Pioneer defense did not allow a single shot from the Eagles.
Junior Jon Stopple began the scoring barrage for the Pioneers when he punched in an assisted goal at the 38:48 mark. Within minutes Brad Strobel booted in a loose ball from about 10 yards out to take the two-point lead over the Eagles and enter the break in a favorable position.
About halfway through the second period, freshman Logan Rinderknecht scored an assisted insurance goal to go up by three. The defense finished the work for the remainder of the game, not allowing a single shot on goal.
Rinderknecht leads the team in scoring with six, while Strobel and Stopple have five apiece.
The Pioneers return on Saturday for another home matchup against the UW-Oshkosh Titans, set to begin at 2p.m.
