PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- The men's soccer team broke their winning streak Wednesday night with a last minute loss to the Dubuque University Spartans at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium, 2-1. The University of Wisconsin-Platteville is now 6-3-3 after the loss and the cross-river rivals increase to an 8-2-1 record.
A scoreless first half solidified the defensive resilience of both squads as the teams went into the halftime with no goals. The second half was the same story until the 67:11 mark when senior goalie Scott Sibik got caught in a one-on-one matchup and allowed his first goal of the night. Sibik ended the evening with six shots on goal, one save and allowed two scores.
Within a minute of the Spartan's late score, Logan Rinderknecht received an assisted pass from Lucas Aplin and netted the tying goal for his fifth of the year. Unfortunately the Spartan offense made an aggressive late game push and kicked in the final goal of the evening with 53 seconds left, taking the win 2-1.
The Pioneers return to Pioneer Stadium next Tuesday to take on Edgewood College at 7p.m.
