Pioneers take down Augustana 4-2
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s soccer team defeated Augustana College (Ill.) 4-2 on Sunday in Rock Island, Ill., taking their overall record to 4-2-3.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team defeated Augustana College (Ill.) 4-2 on Sunday in Rock Island, Ill., taking their overall record to 4-2-3.
After the Vikings went up 1-0 in the middle of the first half, the Pioneers quickly responded with a goal from senior Andrew Machowski, tying the game 1-1 to end the first half.
In the beginning of the second half, sophomore Lucas Aplin scored a header goal off an assist from freshman Brad Strobel to give the Pioneers a 2-1 lead and a powerful momentum for the rest of the half.
After a foul on Augustana in the middle of the half, junior Jon Stopple scored a penalty kick goal, logging his third goal of the season and taking the Pioneers ahead 3-1.
With 20 minutes left to play, freshman Nick Hoklas got his chance off a pass from junior Keith Baerwald, scoring his second goal of the season to take the score to 4-1.
The Vikings responded with 20 seconds left in the game to take the final score to 4-2, giving the Pioneers the win.
The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at 7:00 p.m.
