WAVERLY, Iowa -- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team's strong defense forced another draw, this time at Wartburg, 0-0, on Wednesday.
"It was another defensive battle tonight, and I'm really proud of how we stepped up our game and played with heart," said head coach Enzo Fuschino. "We are defending very well as a team, but we need to score some goals now."
Wartburg didn't have a problem getting off shots with 10 in the first half, but seven saves by UW-Platteville's Scott Sibik kept the game scoreless going into the half.
The Pioneers finally got some offense going in the second half, putting four of their six shots on goal. The Knights' attack didn't slow down in the last half with eight shots.
Wartburg ended the double-overtime contest with 21 shots, as the Pioneer defense held the game scoreless.
UW-Platteville will open conference play on Saturday, as the Pioneers host UW-Superior at 1:30 p.m.
