MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The 17th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team opened the 2013 campaign with a 1-1 tie versus Wisconsin Lutheran on Friday night in Milwaukee, Wis.
"I'm a little disappointed about the final result because we had several good opportunities and could seem to finish," said head coach Enzo Fuschino. "Besides the outcome, I saw some really good things with an aggressive offense and a strong defense that only had one mistake."
The Pioneers and the Warriors went into intermission tied at 0-0, but the UW-Platteville several scoring opportunities out shooting WLC 9-0.
Junior Mbodje Sarr broke the scoreless game with an unassisted goal in the 68th-minute. Sarr ended his night with two shots on goal.
The Warriors scored the equalizer in the 76th-minute on a corner kick.
The Pioneers out shot the Warriors 9-4 in the second half, 5-1 in the first overtime and 3-1 in the final 10 minutes for a total of 26-6. Senior Cameron Weess led UW-Platteville with five shots.
The Pioneers return to the pitch at second-ranked Loras on Tuesday, Sept. 3 in Dubuque, Iowa at 7:30 p.m.
