UW-Platteville Loses to Loras, 4-2

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team dropped a 4-2 decision to host Loras on Tuesday night.

With the contest, tied at 2, Loras scored twice in the second half to raise their record to 4-1-1. The Pioneers, who were playing in their third match in four days, fall to 2-3-1 on the season.

The host Duhawks found the back of the net two minutes into the contest when Dan Figura headed in a corner kick for his third goal of the season. Just slightly a minute, later, the Pioneers equalized when Ryan McElmeel added his first goal of the season.

Each team continued to mount offensive threats and Loras scored again in the 15th minute when Brad Joiner picked up a rebound and fired a shot past the Pioneers' goalkeeper for a 2-1 advantage. Again, for the second time on the evening, the Pioneers tied it when Brandon Chmiel scored his team-leading third goal of the season in the 31st minute. He sent in a chip shot over the reach of the Loras goalkeeper to tie the contest at 2.

After 16 shots in the first 45 minutes, the two teams offensive fireworks continued in the second half. However, it was an own goal in the 58th minute that gave Loras a 3-2 advantage. The Duhawks picked up an insurance goal in the 60th minute to complete the 4-2 win.

Loras managed to outshoot the Pioneers by a 20 to 10 margin and record a 6 to 1 advantage in corner kicks. UW-Platteville goalkeeper Jared Kuehl made seven saves in the loss, Loras goalkeeper NateDuBois made four saves, including three in the second half.

Next up for UW-Platteville is a contest against St. Norbert on Saturday, Sept. 17 in Dubuque and return home on Sunday, Sept. 18 against Nebraska Wesleyan at 2:30 p.m.
