Pioneers come up short at Luther

UW-Platteville dropped its second straight two-point game, falling 55-53 at Luther Wednesday night.

The Pioneers led 14-7 6:25 intto the contest, but then went cold from the field, making just one more field goal the rest of the half. UW-Platteville fell behind 27-18 at the end of the first period.

Trailing 52-42 in the final 1:30, the Pioneers rallied within two. Joe Allen's long three-point attempt brought the visitors within 54-51. The Norse's Jacy Dillahunty made one of two free throws with 24 seconds left. After the teams traded scoreless possessions, Chas Cross put in a rebound baset with two ticks remaining, making the score 55-53. Luther was able to inbound the ball and run out the clock before the Pioneers could foul.

Nick Allen scored 14, Joe Allen 13 and Brett Stangel 11 for the Pioneers, who fell to 2-4.

Dane Larson led Luther (1-4) with 16 points, and Tyler Wedemeier had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Pioneers open Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday on Bo Ryan Court at 1 p.m.

Bus Trips Planned

The UW-Platteville men's basketball boosters are planning to take a bus to the game at UW-La Crosse on Dec 11. The cost is $20 and it includes a ticket to the game. The bus will depart at 11 a.m. to allow time for lunch (not included).

The boosters also plan to take a bus to the Pioneers' games at UW-Whitewater on Jan. 16 and at UW-Stevens Point on Feb. 19. Details on these trips will follow closer to the games.
