Pioneers defeat Clarke, 66-49

UW-Platteville defeated Clarke University 66-49 in its home-opener on Bo Ryan Court on Friday in the Gabe Miller Tip-Off Classic.

The Pioneers outscored the Crusaders 13-2 in the first seven minutes in the game and would extend their lead to 20 points at halftime. The Crusaders wouldn't go down without a fight by cutting UW-Platteville's lead to 13 with nine minutes left in the game. The Pioneer's defense help push the lead 19 points with under a minute to play and held Clarke to 28.8 percent from the field.

UW-Platteville were led by seniors Joe Allen and Eric Wall with 14 points apiece, and followed by feshman Chas Cross with 12 points. Wall earned his fifth career double with his 10 rebounds and 14 points. Senior Nick Allen contributed with nine points, five assists, and nine rebounds.

Clarke's Chad Boston led the team with nine points and also grabbed six rebounds, and followed by Elliott Carr with seven points and six rebounds.

The Pioneers improve to 2-0, while Clarke drops to 5-2.

In Friday's first game, Wash U. defeated UW-Eau Claire 62-57. On Saturday, Clarke plays UW-Eau Claire at 5 p.m., and the Pioneers meet Wash U. at 7 p.m.
