Pioneers top Viterbo on Wall's jumper

Eric Wall's jump shot with eight seconds left lifted visiting UW-Platteville to a 62-60 victory over Viterbo in La Crosse Wednesday night.

The V-Hawks's Nick Stillwell tied the game on a field goal with 23 seconds remaining. UWP Coach Jeff Gard called timeout with 12 seconds left to set up the winning play. Viterbo's Ryan Ambrose missed a potential game-tying shot at the buzzer.

The Pioneers improved to 5-2 overall. The V-Hawks, who lost 62-59 on a three-pointer at the buzzer to UW-La Crosse in their last outing, fell to 2-6.

Curt Hanson scored 14, and Mike Shaw had 13 for the Pioneers, who also got 11 points apeice from Wall and Shane Kieler. Nick Allen dished out a game-high six assists.

Scott Buschman led Viterbo with 23 points, while Eric Ambrose added 18 points and four steals.

The Pioneers open their Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule Saturday by facing UW-Superior at 3 p.m. or 30 minutes after the women's 1 p.m. contest. UW-Superior beat UW-River Falls 83-81 Wednesday.
