Allen's jumper lifts Pioneers past Blue Devils

February 13, 2010

Nick Allen's jump shot in the lane with 4.6 seconds left lifted UW-Platteville past UW-Stout 75-73 Saturday night on Bo Ryan Court.

The Pioneers led the entire second half, until the Blue Devils' Eric Hostetter tied the score with an inside shot with 33 seconds remaining. The Pioneers wound the clock down before Allen floated a running jumper for the game-winner. Hostetter's three-point attempt from just inside the half-court line missed at the buzzer.

UW-Platteville moved into a fourth-place tie with UW-La Crosse at 7-7 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference race. The Blue Devils remain in third at 8-7. Both clubs are now 13-10 overall.

Curt Hanson paced the Pioneers with 20 points, while Mike Shaw added 16, Eric Wall 15 and Rob Stallion 10.

Hostetter's 21 led all scorers, while Jerrel Enerson-Matthews added 15 and Grant Franzen 10 for the Blue Devils.

Stout was within 38-35 at the half, thanks in part to a 7-12 effort from beyond the three-point line. Platteville, however, shot 52.4 percent in the second half and held the Blue Devils to 3-14 from three-point land in the final 20 minutes.

The Pioneers will face co-leader UW-Stevens Point (11-3) Wednesday on Bo Ryan Court in another important conference battle. The top two teams earn byes, while the third- and fourth-place teams play host to first round games in the six-team post-season tournament.
