UW-Platteville dug itself too big of a hole and lost 74-53 at second-ranked UW-Stevens Point Wednesday.

The Pointers, in line to move up to the top spot nationally after #1 Randolph-Macon fell, bolted out to a 40-17 halftime lead. UWSP shot 63 percent, compared to just 27.3 percent for the Pioneers in the opening 20 minutes.

The Pointers improved to 14-1 overall and 5-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while the Pioneers slipped to 9-6, 3-3.

Jared Jenkins scored 20 points, including 17 in the first period, to lead the Pointers, while Louis Hurd had 11 of his 15 in the opening half.

Curt Hanson and Shane Kieler each scored 17 points for the Pioneers, who made 59 percent of their shots in the second half.
