January 28, 2009

Jeff Skemp scored 21 points, and Charlie Lohoff made five three-point baskets in his final game in his hometown, leading UW-Platteville to a 74-50 victory at UW-Oshkosh Wednesday.

The fourth-ranked Pioneers improved to 17-2 overall and 9-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while the Titans fell to 10-9, 4-6.

Skemp had 13 of his 21 points in the second half, with nine of them coming from the line. Overall the senior center was 13-14 in free-throw shooting, helping the Pioneers to a 26-29 night from the line.

Lohoff, a senior from Oshkosh North, was 5-7 from beyond the three-point line, finishing with 17 points. He had three long-range shots in the first half, in which the Pioneers built a 33-19 lead. His next three-pointer capped a 7-0 run to start the second half, putting UWP up 40-19.

Junior guards Curt Hanson and Mike Shaw each scored 10 for the Pioneers. A Shaw three-point basket put the Pioneers ahead 54-37, after Oshkosh crept within 14 on a Cory Wittwer 3. Shaw's layup and subsequent foul shot pushed the margin back to 20, and the Titans came no closer.

Dane Seckar Anderson scored 12, and Wittwer 11 for the Titans, who were held to season lows in both points and field-goal percentage (37.8). Matt Miller did make both free throws, setting a new UWO record with 46 consecutive.

The Pioneers play host to UW-River Falls Saturday at 1 p.m.
