10 No. 10 Sea Lions hold off Pioneers

Point Loma Nazarene, ranked 10th in the NAIA poll, held off UW-Platteville 80-78 Saturday night in San Diego.

The Sea Lions won their seventh straight game, improving to 11-1 on the year, while the Pioneers slipped to 7-3.

Neither team scored a field goal after PLN's Brian Ormon scored on a dunk with 3:04 to play, lifting the hosts to a 79-77 lead. The Pioneers made just one of six free throws down the stretch, preventing them from tying the score or taking the lead. The Sea Lions' Josh Sanderson made one of two free throws with two seconds left to account for the final score.

The back-and-forth affair featured 19 lead changes and nine ties. The Pioneers held a 38-37 halftime advantage.

Mike Shaw and Curt Hanson each scored 21 for the Pioneers, while Charlie Lohoff added 19 points and 11 rebounds. Sanderson topped the Sea Lions with 18 points.

The Pioneers continue their San Diego tour with a game against George Fox (Ore.) Monday at 4:30 p.m. CST at Point Loma Nazarene.
