Pioneers open with win vs. Viterbo

UW-Platteville's Mike Jamerson scored all 19 of his points in the first 11:55 of the second half, leading the host Pioneers past Viterbo 75-60 in the second game of the Pioneer Tip-Off Classic Friday in Williams Fieldhouse.

Jamerson's scoring outburst led the Pioneers on a 32-13 run to break a halftime tie. His fifth three-point basket gave the Pioneers their largest lead at 61-42 with 8:05 remaining.

UWP's Charlie Lohoff scored 14 points, grabbed eight rebounds and made three assists, a block and steal. He had 10 points in the first half, including a three-pointer with three seconds left in the first half that tied the game at 29-29.

Viterbo (0-4), which led by as many as five points seven times in the first half, was led by Jeremy Fradette with 19 points, Greg Jefferies with 14, and Scott Buschman with 12. The V-Hawks made 57 percent of their shots in the first half but just 28 percent in the second.

Both Jeff Skemp and Bo Richter had nine points for the Pioneers (1-0), who shot 56.5 percent in the second half.

Viterbo faces Ripon Saturday at 5 p.m., and the Pioneers play Buena Vista at 7 p.m.

Buena Vista rallied from a 51-31 halftime deficit to defeat Ripon 85-80 in overtime. Andre Wagner completed the comeback with a three-point shot with 31 seconds remaining, knotting the score at 71-71. Brian Fogelman scored six points in the overtime session, including a layup with 14 seconds left for an 83-80 lead. Wagner had 20 points for the Beavers, while Bo Johnson paced the Red Hawks with 25.
