Quick start paces Pioneer rout

UW-Platteville began the game with a 28-8 run and went on to rout UW-Superior 72-43 Saturday in Williams Fieldhouse.

The Pioneers' Josh Langenfeld scored the first five points of the game, and UWP rolled from there. The Pioneers pushed the margin to 20 with 9:17 left in the first half and settled for a 37-21 halftime lead.

The Pioneers scored seven straight points early in the second half, extending a 19-point margin to 52-26, and the Yellowjackets came no closer than 22 points the rest of the afternoon.

UW-Platteville improved to 11-11 overall and 6-8 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while UW-Superior slipped to 5-18, 0-14.

Langenfeld and LeVon Crawford each scored 16 points to pace the Pioneers, who had 10 different players score. Despite the margin and the numerous substitutions, the Pioneers turned the ball over just 10 times. Crawford made 5-7 from the field, including a crowd-pleasing steal and dunk inthe second half.

Leonard Cobb, the WIAC's leading scorer and rebounder, had 19 points and eight rebounds. Cobb, however, was held scoreless by Mark Gossens and the other Pioneer defenders until UWP had already built a 28-10 lead.

The Pioneers will salute Crawford and fellow senior Clay Dean before their final home game Wednesday vs. UW-Stevens Point at 7 p.m.
