Pioneers fall in final second at River Falls

UW-River Falls stunned UW-Platteville 60-59 on a driving basket by Eric Kossoris with 0.6 seconds remaining.

The loss snapped the Pioneers' nine-game winning streak and knocked them out of first place in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The Pioneers fell to 16-6, 11-3, while the Falcons improved to 8-14, 4-10.

The Falcons held the Pioneers scoreless over the final 2:27, closing the game with a 7-0 run. Jeff Holt scored with 42 seconds remaining, cutting the Pioneer lead to 59-58. The Pioneers ran the shot clock down, but Brandon Temperly's jump shot went in and out of the basket. The Falcons called timeout with six seconds remaining to set up the winning play.

Temperly led the Pioneers with 16 points, while Mark Gossens had 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Brad Reitzner and Jeff Skemp each scored 11.

UWRF's Hans Hoeg led all scorers with 23 points, while Holt had 15 and Kossoris 11.
