Vikings capture Tip-Off title

Seventh-ranked Lawrence University won the inaugural Pioneer Tip-Off Tournament, beating 24th-ranked UW-Platteville 64-56 in the championship game.

Dan Evans and Brendan Falls made back-to-back hoops with under nine minutes to play, breaking a 42-42 tie. Falls made a three-point shot when the Pioneers cut the lead to 49-46 and another layup with 4:43 left when UWP was within 52-48. The Pioneers could not come closer than five the rest of the way.

The Pioneers' Brad Reitzner earned a spot on the five-player all-tournament team after scoring 16 points. Mark Gossens and LeVon Crawford added 11 points for the Pioneers, who are now 1-1.

The Vikings' Chris Braier earned tournament MVP honors after scoring nine points and grabbing a game-high 15 rebounds in the title match. Falls, who had 16 points by hitting 6-8 from the field, also made the honors team. Jason Hollinbeck added 17 points for the 2-0 Vikings.

Viterbo came from behind to beat Concordia (WI) 89-86 in the consolation game. The V-Hawks' Jeremy Fradette and the Falcons' Josh Atkinson were their team's representatives on the all-tournament squad.
