Pioneers Complete Sweep of Pointers on Senior Night
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The UW-Platteville men’s basketball completed the sweep of UW-Stevens Point by defeating the Pointers 55-50 on Saturday night. With the win, the Pioneers secured the #3 seed in next weeks WIAC Championship and will host #6 UW-Whitewater in the first round Tuesday night (Feb. 19).

With the win, the Pioneers secured the #3 seed in next weeks WIAC Championship and will host #6 UW-Whitewater in the first round Tuesday night (Feb. 19).
On a night that started out honoring seniors Colin Connelly, Robert Duax, Clay Gerds and Colin Kramper it was the defense that ended up stealing the show. The Pioneers brought a complete effort on the defensive end for forty minutes. UW-Stevens Point who came into the game averaging 69.3 points per game were held to 50 points. They held the Pointers to 39.2% shooting from the field and 26.9% from the three-point line while only allowing 4 free throws for the entire game.
The Pioneers offensively were led by junior Carter Voelker who contributed 13 points and 5 rebounds. Senior Robert Duax chipped in 11 points and sophomore Quentin Shields had a solid all-around performance finishing with his first double-double (10 points and 10 rebounds). Shields also had 6 assists.
With the win the UW-Platteville will host UW-Whitewater in the first round of the WIAC Tournament on Tuesday Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. on Bo Ryan Court in Williams Fieldhouse.
Tickets for Tuesday's game will go on sale on Sunday, Feb. 17 at 8 a.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance online at the University Online Box Office. The Ticket Window will open at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19 for day-of-event sales. All transactions at the Ticket Window are cash or check only.
Season ticket holders and booster members can purchase their assigned seats in the Athletic Department Office of Williams Fieldhouse via cash or check during the following times:
8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18
8 a.m.-noon on Tuesday, Feb. 19
All sales are cash or check only for season ticket holders and booster members. After noon on Tuesday, all unpurchased season ticket seats will be released for sale.
Parents and family ticket holders who received complimentary tickets in the regular season must now pay for their seats which are $7/ticket.
A group of 300 tickets will be released on a first come first served basis to UW-Platteville students on Monday, Feb. 18 at 2 p.m. Students may pick up their ticket at the Athletic Department Office in Williams Fieldhouse. Each student may only pick up one ticket and must show valid UW-Platteville I.D. After the 300 tickets have been claimed, all remaining students must purchase a $3 ticket for the event.
