The UW-Platteville Pioneers lost to UW-La Crosse by a score of 80-76 on Saturday night. With the loss the Pioneers fell to 7-6 and 0-2 in the WIAC.
The Pioneers got off to a good start in the first half holding an eight-point lead at intermission, 42-34. But the Eagles of La Crosse started the second half on a 14-4 run and took the lead 48-46. The Pioneers would battle in the second half keeping it close but held their last lead with 9:26 left in the second half. The Pioneers shot a blistering 60.7% in the first half but would only shoot 38.2% in the second half. The Eagles shot hot throughout the whole game shooting at a clip of 52.9% for the whole game.
The Pioneers were led offensively by Quentin Shields who chipped in 28 points on 10-of-15 shooting and Robert Duax scored 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting.
