Pioneers fall to Thunder
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s basketball team fell 77-99 Wednesday night to Wheaton College on Bo Ryan Court in Williams Fieldhouse. The Pioneers fall to 5-3 this season while the Thunder improve to 8-2.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's basketball team fell 77-99 Wednesday night to Wheaton College on Bo Ryan Court in Williams Fieldhouse. The Pioneers fall to 5-3 this season while the Thunder improve to 8-2.
Freshman Blake McCann had a career high Wednesday night with 18 points off the bench while both Quentin Shields and Robert Duax finished the night with 15 points apiece.
In the process of the Thunder's win, Wheaton's 2017-18 All-American, Aston Francis, broke a 64 year old program record with 54 points scored in a single game. Francis' 54 points ties him with Division I Furman's Jordan Lyles for the most points scored in a NCAA game this season.
The Pioneers finished the night at 39.1% (25-64) from the field to Wheaton's 49.2% (31-63). The Thunder shot 38.5% (10-26) from the three-point line while UW-Platteville finished with 25% (7-28) from behind the arc. Both UW-Platteville and Wheaton found success from the free throw line with the Pioneers finishing 83.3% (20-24) and the Thunder shooting 90% (27-30).
The Pioneers return to action Saturday, Dec. 15 at Hope College with tip off scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
