PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - UW-Platteville Men's Basketball opened the season with a 74-60 win over Concordia Wisconsin on Friday night on Bo Ryan Court.
The Pioneers (1-0) built a comfortable 45-29 halftime lead over the Falcons (0-2) and never looked back. Carter Voelker and Quentin Shields led the scoring attack in the big first half. Voelker had an efficient 14 points (6-8 FG, 2-4 3PT) while Shields chipped in 9 points and 2 assists. The Pioneers shot an impressive 53% from the field (15-28) and three-point range (7-13) in the first half.
Pre-season All-American Robert Duax took over the scoring load and scored 14 of his 18 points in the second half. Voelker made an impact on the defensive end in the second half and racked up 4 steals.
On the night, Voelker had 19 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals. Duax finished with 18 points and 5 steals. Clay Gerds led the Pioneers on the glass and finished with 10 rebounds.
Concordia Wisconsin was led by Andrew Fratzke and Josh Hau who both scored 18 points.
UW-Platteville continues Saturday against Saint John's (Minn.) at 5 PM on Bo Ryan Court.
