Duax earns All-WIAC honors
MADISON, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin–Platteville's Robert Duax was named to the 2016–17 All–Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men's Basketball Team, chosen by the league’s coaches and announced by league office on Wednesday.
MADISON, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin–Platteville's Robert Duax was named to the 2016–17 All–Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men's Basketball Team, chosen by the league's coaches and announced by league office on Tuesday.
Duax, a sophomore guard from Dubuque Hempstead, led the Pioneers and finished second in the WIAC in scoring at 16.8 points per game. He started all 25 games and played a team-high 30.5 minutes per game while averaging 4.4 rebounds (14th in the WIAC), 2.9 assists (7th in the WIAC) and 1.6 steals per game (2nd), both team highs. Duax shot 45 percent from the field (141 of 313), including 38.7 percent (41 of 106) from beyond the arc. He also finished seventh in the WIAC in free throw percentage at 82.8 percent (96 of 116).
Sophomore guard Colin Kramper was named to the eight-player WIAC All-Sportsmanship team. Kramper played in all 25 games for the Pioneers, averaging 3.1 points, 1.9 rebounds and 0.5 in 13 minutes a game of the bench.
The Pioneers finished 8–17 overall this year and 1–13 in the WIAC under Jeff Gard, who is now 115–95 in his eight seasons as UW–Platteville's head coach.
UW–River Falls' Alex Herink was selected the Player of the Year to lead the individuals chosen to the 2017 WIAC Player of the Year. UW-River Falls head coach Jeff Berkhof was tabbed the Coach of the Year.
UW–Oshkosh Sean Dwyer was named the Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
