Men's Basketball participates in Coaches vs. Cancer Week
Head men's basketball coach Jeff Gard and his staff will swap their dress shoes for sneakers for Wednesday's game against UW-Eau Claire to demonstrate their support for the American Cancer Society's efforts to finish the fight against cancer.
Coaches vs. Cancer Suits And Sneakers™ Awareness Week, a collaborative initiative of the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the American Cancer Society, will take place Jan. 19-25, 2015. During this week, more than 4,000 high school and college men's basketball coaches, including Coach Jeff Gard and our UW-Platteville staff, will swap their dress shoes for sneakers with their usual game attire during Wednesday's game against UW-Eau Claire to demonstrate their support for the American Cancer Society's efforts to finish the fight against cancer.
Benvenuto's in Platteville is also teaming up with the American Cancer Society and Pioneer Basketball from Jan. 19-22. When you dine at Benvenuto's from Jan. 19 through Jan. 22 mention "I'm dinning to fight cancer" and a portion of your bill will be donated back to the American Cancer Society and Coaches vs. Cancer on behalf of Benvenuto's. Please help us in the fight against cancer...every dollar counts!
College and high school coaches and teams who participate in Suits And Sneakers Awareness Week help the American Cancer Society save lives and fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. The Society's efforts have contributed to a 20 percent decline in cancer death rates in the US since 1991, and a 50 percent drop in smoking rates since the 1960s. The Society is finding cures as the nation's largest private, not-for-profit investor in cancer research, ensuring people facing cancer have the help they need, and continuing the fight for access to quality health care, lifesaving screenings, clean air, and more.
