Men's Basketball travels to Stevens Point for WIAC Semifinals
The UW-Platteville men's basketball team heads to No. 1 UW-Stevens Point on Friday for the semifinal of the WIAC Tournament.
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's basketball team heads to No. 1 UW-Stevens Point on Friday for the semifinal of the WIAC Tournament.
The Pointers swept the Pioneers in the regular season. On Jan. 22, the UWSP closed out the game on a 11-0 run, taking home a 70-56 victory. On Feb. 12, the Pointers used a 13-0 run miday through the second half to pull away from the Pioneers in a 74-59 win on Bennett Court.
PIONEER TOURNAMENT HISTORY
• The Pioneers are 12-14 all-time in the WIAC Tournament and are 4-3 in the semifinals.
• The last time Platteville and Stevens Point squared off was a year ago in the 2013 semifinals. The fifth-seeded Pioneers upset top-seeded UW-Stevens Point, 60-56.
• The Pioneers and the Pointers have met more than any other pair of WIAC schools in the tournament, as UWSP has a slight 3-4 advantage.
• The first tournament meeting was in the inaugural WIAC Tournament in the 1999 semifinals. The Pioneers won 57-45 and went on to win the postseason league title and then their fourth NCAA Championship.
