Phil Micech, a graduate of UW-Platteville, continues to lend his knowledge and expertise as an assistant coach for UW-Platteville football.

Micech was involved in the tutelage of 2012 first-team all-WIAC defensive lineman Corey Marks, who earned his third-straight first-team honor.

In 2012, the Pioneer defense was second in the WIAC in scoring defense (17.7 ppg), rushing defense (125.3 ypg) and total defense (316.0 ypg). In 2010, he was named the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association WIAC Assistant Coach of the Year.

Micech is the answer to a great trivia question, as he scored the first points in Arena Football League history, recording a safety. Before embarking on a professional career, he was a two-time all-WIAC defensive lineman for the Pioneers, in 1981 and 1982. 

Micech went on to sign a free-agent contract with the Minnesota Vikings.
