Six Pioneers earn all-region honors by D3football.com
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville garnered six D3football.com 2013 All-West Region selections.
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville garnered six D3football.com 2013 All-West Region selections.
Senior quarterback John Kelly was named West Region Offensive Player of the Year, and was joined by junior defensive back Rob Austin on the first team. Sophomore defensive end Andrew Robinson received second team honors, while wide receiver Ryley Bailey, guard Jayson Eddy and kicker Zach Litchfield were all third team selections.
Kelly set four single season school records. He completed 303 passes for 3,626 yards and 36 touchdowns while totaling 3,881 total yards of offense. The Chicago, Ill. native, was named first-team all-WIAC and earned WIAC Offensive Player of the Week.
Austin led the WIAC and ranked 33rd in the nation with 17 passes defended. He tallied 14 pass breakups and three interceptions. He was named first team all-conference.
Robinson led the conference with 10 sacks and ranked 40th in the country for his nine solo and two assist sacks. He totaled 17 tackles for a loss and made 43 stops, earning first team all-WIAC honors.
Bailey caught 86 passes for 1,047 yards, becoming the second Pioneer in school history to record over 1,000 yards receiving in a season. The senior receiver averaged 7.17 receptions per game for 87.2 yard a game. His 86 catches set a new school record and ranked fourth most in WIAC history. The Elburn, Ill. native, was named first team all-WIAC last month.
Eddy anchored the offensive line that only allowed 14 sacks and helped set new program offensive season records in total offense per game (499.2), points scored (455), total touchdowns (58), and passing yards (4,186). The junior from Aurora, Ill., was a first-team all-conference selection.
Litchfield ended his career as the Pioneers' all-time points leader by a kicker with 268 and tied the career field goal mark of 32. The senior from Waupaca, Wis. was 60-for-61 on extra point attempts and 9-for-12 on field goals with a career long 47 yards at UW-Whitewater.
