Pointers rally past Pioneers
UW-Stevens Point scored 28 unanswered fourth-quarter points to rally past UW-Platteville 41-27, spoiling the Pioneers' Senior Day.
Keith Ingram, who rushed for 210 yard, scored two of his three touchdowns in the final period, and Anthony Aker caught two touchdown passes from Jared Beckwith for the Pointers, who had trailed 20-13.
The Pioneers' final score came with 1:48 remaining, when quarteback Mitch Shadley hooked up with Aunton Terry for their second score, this one from 13 yards away.
UWSP finished 7-3 overall and 6-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and the Pioneers 3-7, 1-6 following a contest that featured 10 turnovers. Both teams intercepted four passes and recovered fumbles.
Brian Snyder had two inteceptions for the Pioneers, ending the Pointers' first two drives, and Mike Krueger had two for UWSP.
The Pioneers took a 14-13 halftime lead. With the Pointers leading 3-0, Shadley threw 20 yards to Terry in the second quarter for a touchdown. UWSP came back behind Ingram's one-yard run and Andrew Clohan's second field goal. With 59 seconds left in the half, Shadley scrambled around left end for a nine-yard score and the 14-13 lead.
Tony Smidl made third-quarter field goals on 28 and 31 yards in the third quarter before the Pointers began their comeback. Ingram ran in from four yards; Aker caught a 23-yard TD from Beckwith; Ingram rushed for an 18-yard score; and Aker grabbed an 8-yard slant pass for the 41-20 lead.
Ingram's 210 yards came on 24 carries, while Garret Medenwald added 77. Beckwith threw for 222 yards, with Aker catching 9 for 102.
Shadley finished the day 28-44 for 280 yards with Terry catching 10 for 129 and Darin Blaser 9 for 120 yards. Chad Roscoe added 78 rushing yards.
The Pioneers' Dave Daino led all tacklers with 11, while Jon Ebert and Tom Kral added interceptions.
UW-Platteville bid farwell to 23 seniors, who were honored in a pre-game ceremony.
