Posted April 25, 2010

UW-Platteville rallied--again--to beat UW-Stout 11-10 Sunday, then completed a four-game weekend sweep with an 11-3 victory in the nightcap.

The Pioneers, who came from behind to win both of Saturday's contests, rallied from a 10-5 sixth-inning deficit in the opener. Alex Siehoff connected on a two-run pinch-hit home run in the sixth, bringing the Pioneers within 10-7, and UWP came all the way back with three in the eighth. Wade Axelson ripped a solo home run in the eighth, and Jason Jacobson hit a two-run single to tie the score, setting up a dramatic ninth inning.

Joe Nartowicz singled and advanced to second on Tyler Jacobson's sacrifice bunt. Axelson then delivered the game-winner, singling up the middle to score Nartowicz.

Justin Cox threw six innings in relief, earning the victory and improving to 3-1.

In the nightcap, Axelson hit a two-run home run, and Levi Ney ripped a bases-loaded triple in the second inning, helping the Pioneers to a 5-1 lead. Axelson homered in all four games of the series. Siehoff drove another ball over the fence in the sixth, starting a second five-run inning. Trevor Kattre also had a two-run single in the frame.

Wil Osmanski pitched seven strong innings, raising his record to 5-1, while Nate Poelman and Brandon Byrne each tossed scoreless frames.

The Pioneers improved to 18-13 overall and 8-10 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while the Blue Devils fell to 9-18, 4-10.
