Piedmont stops Pioneers

Two Piedmont pitchers held UW-Platteville to two hits, as the host Lions beat the Pioneers 8-2 Friday in Demorest, Ga.

Alex Beebe carried a no-hitter into the sixth, until the Pioneers rallied with two runs. Jason Jacobson was hit by a pitch, Levi Ney and Steve Nelson walked, and Brenden Watson singled through the left side to score Jacobson and Ney.

Beebe, who had 10 strikeouts, pitched six innings, while Josh Strickland allowed one hit over the final three frames.

Piedmont improved to 11-10 on the season, while the Pioneers fell to 5-4.

The Lions scored two in the third and three in the fourth. Andrew Migitz had a bases-loaded single in the third and a two-run triple the next inning. Piedmont tacked on three insurance runs in the fifth.

UW-Platteville plays a single game at Loras College Wednesday in Dubuque, starting at 4 p.m.
