In game one, the Pioneers jumped to an early 2-0 lead off a 2RBI double by Zach McCoy in the 1st inning, but the Lions tied the game 2-2 by the 6th frame. The Pioneers kept the Lions to three up and three down in the 10th and with runners on first and second with one out, Andrew Zakula stepped up and singled to right center to bat in the go-ahead run and walk-off win.
On the mound in game one, Brady Hoppert led the Pioneers through six innings striking out nine, walking one and surrendering seven hits and two runs. Finlandia was held to blanks again in the top of the 6th inning, but that would not be the case for UW-Platteville. With one out and bases loaded, Dillon Sunnquist tallied the RBI after being walked to put the Pioneers on the board. Slate Higa followed and singled down the right line to bat in two more runs. Ross Krist continued the scoring parade and followed Higa with a single to left cent to increase the lead to 4-0 which held until the end.
Parker Heidorf (W, 1-0) left little opportunity for Finlanding while recording the win. Heidorf struck out 11 in seven innings and walked two while allowing just two hits. Zach Lieb relieved Heidorf to pitch the final two innings and struck out three and walked two while allowing no hits.
