Pioneers drop two against #23 Whitewater
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team was defeated in both games of the double header against University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Tuesday at Kendall Murray Field.

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team was defeated in both games of their double header against #23 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Tuesday at Kendall Murray Field.
The Pioneers fall to 9-14 overall (4-6 WIAC) while the Warhawks improve to 12-6 overall (5-1 WIAC).
Senior Keegan Madigan started on the mound for the first game and pitched seven innings while allowing two earned runs. The Warhawks scored two runs in the first inning which proved to be enough for the win. The Pioneers had six hits throughout the game highlighted by senior Brennan Kearney's 2-of-3 effort which included a walk. The Pioneers scored a run in the seventh inning to make the score 3-1 but the Warhawks responded with six runs in the eighth and ninth innings to seal the victory.
The Pioneers matched their hit total (6) in the second game but had a few more base runners due to seven walks and three Warhawk errors. Leadoff hitter freshman Ben Espinoza led the offense by going 3-of-5 with a double, RBI and a run scored. The Pioneers allowed six runs by the end of the second inning and responded with two runs of their own in the third inning to cut the lead to 6-2. The Warhawks responded with three runs in the fourth inning to push the lead to 9-2. Sophomore Michael Greco pitched the final five innings in relief and only allowed one earned run.
The Pioneers travel to UW-Stevens Point for a four-game series on Friday, April 19 (1:00 & 4:00 pm) and Saturday, April 20 (12:00 & 3:00 pm).
