Trautsch's homer downs Eagles
The UW-Platteville baseball team extended its winning-streak to three games after beating Edgewood, 5-4, on Sunday at Stampfl Field in Verona, Wis.
VERONA, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team extended its winning-streak to three games, beating Edgewood 5-4, on Sunday at Stampfl Field in Verona, Wis.
The Eagles scored first in the second inning, tallying three run on five hits.
The Pioneers answered with three runs of their own in the top of the third. Freshman Colin DeBoer got things going with a leadoff single, and then a pair of walks loaded up the bases. DeBoer scored the Pioneers' first run on a wild pitch. Senior Zach Demmon delivered a one-out bases clearing double to tie the game up, 3-3.
Sophomore Casey Schroeder came up with a two-out RBI double to put the Pioneers up 4-3, but Edgewood responded with a run of their own to tie it back up, 4-4, through six innings.
Sophomore Tyler Trautsch led the ninth frame off with a solo home run, putting the Pioneers up 5-4.
Sophomore Austin Daniels then sat the Eagles down in order, earning the complete-game victory. Daniels struck out eight, while allowing nine hits and four runs.
Sophomore Zack Iverson, Schroeder and Trautsch each tallied two hits.
The Pioneers will wrap up the 2014 season on Monday with a non-conference doubleheader at Marian (Wis.). First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
