Yellowjackets setback Pioneers twice
The UW-Platteville baseball team was setback twice by UW-Superior, falling 4-2 and 11-1 in seven innings on Friday at Kendall Murray Field.

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team was setback twice by UW-Superior, falling 4-2 and 11-1 in seven innings on Friday at Kendall Murray Field.
The Yellowjackets' Tony Remund came up with a two-out RBI single to score the game's first run in the third inning.
The Pioneers answered with two runs of their own in the top of the fourth frame. UW-Platteville led the inning off with hits by senior Zach Demmon and sophomore Ryan Lehmann, and were put in scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Tanner Galeazzi. Sophomore Zack Iverson delivered a two-RBI single to put the Pioneers ahead, 2-1.
A two-out Pioneer miscue in the bottom of the fifth allowed UWS to tie the game, 2-2.
Freshman Nathan Fay got the Pioneers through seven and only allowed four hits and one earned run. He sat down six Yellowjackets and only walked two.
Sophomore Austin Daniels game in relief in the eighth and it didn't take any time for the Yellowjacket hitters to adjust to the new arm. Remund opened the frame with a double and then a double by Sam Holden scored Remund, 3-2. Alex Quinones gave UWS an insurance run the very next batter with a RBI single.
UWS's senior Travis Elwood closed the door on the Pioneers, putting UW-Platteville down in order in the ninth. Elwood struck out 10 and gave up five hits and two runs.
In game two, the Yellowjackets jumped out to a quick 2-0 in the first.
Sophomore Todd Wienkes came up with a two-out RBI single, putting the Pioneers on the board in the top of the second. A couple of Pioneer errors helped UWS score six runs in the bottom of second inning, taking a 8-1 lead.
The Yellowjackets once again received an extra out in the fourth and took advantage with a two-RBI double to go up 10-1.
UWS scored one more run in the fifth, 11-,1 and with the Pioneers unable to push a run across in next two innings the 10-run rule was put into effect.
UW-Platteville's Scott Drake started and only got through 1.1, giving up three hits and seven runs (three earned). Freshman Jonny Frese came in relief and tossed 3.2, allowing four runs (one earned) on six hits.
UWS's Damian Wiblin scattered five hits in his seven-inning complete game victory.
The Pioneers return to action on Tuesday when they host fourth-ranked UW-Whitewater at 1 p.m.
