Baseball steamrolls Fredonia St., 15-5
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Pioneer baseball team concluded its Spring Break road trip in Florida with a blowout win over Fredonia St., 15-5.

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Pioneer baseball team concluded its Spring Break road trip in Florida with a blowout win over Fredonia St., 15-5.
After falling behind 1-0 in the second inning, the Pioneers exploded for eight runs in their half, powered by a bases-loaded triple by catcher Todd Wienkes. The Pioneers batted and showed great patience at the plate in the inning, drawing five walks.
Fredonia answered back with a four-run third inning, moving men around the bases, but Pioneer starter Austin Daniels was able to get out of the jam without surrendering the lead.
Right fielder Tanner Galeazzi brought in a run on a sac fly in the third, and second baseman George Jester III notched an RBI on a sac fly in the fourth.
In the sixth, first baseman Zach Demmon drilled a homer to lead off the inning, and left fielder Ryan Lehmann picked up an RBI single to push the lead to 12-5.
UW-Platteville scored two in the seventh and one in the eighth to bring the score up to 15-5.
Daniels picked up his first win of the year, hurling six innings and striking out four.
Wienkes went 2-3 on the day at the plate with three RBIs, two runs scored and drew a walk.
The Pioneers return to Platteville and have their first home game of the season Wednesday against Loras. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
