FORT MYERS, Fla. – McDaniel College's three-run second and five-run sixth innings proved decisive in the Pioneers 10-4 loss on Thursday.
As has been their tradition this season, the Pioneers got on the board early, as third baseman Zach Demmon led off the second inning with a triple, and then was brought in by designated hitter Bobby Bean's single.
McDaniel regained the lead in their half on the strength of a two-run double and an RBI single after getting men on second and third.
The Pioneers responded by scoring a run in the third to bring the score to 3-2. Center fielder Ryan Duva led the inning off with a single between second and third, and then stole second to get into scoring position. Two batters later, second baseman George Jester III brought Duva home with a single through the left side.
The Green Terror was able to score a run in the third and the fourth to push the lead to 5-2.
In the sixth, UW-Platteville scored a run to cut into the deficit on a sacrifice fly by Bean. But McDaniel dealt the decisive blow in the bottom half of the inning, putting up five runs to push the lead to 10-3. McDaniel loaded the bases with no outs and the Pioneers were unable to work out of the jam.
The day's scoring was concluded by Jester III picking up his second RBI in the seventh on a single to right center.
The Pioneers will be seeking their second win of the season tomorrow against Nichols at 11 a.m.
