Baseball falls in extras to Loras

The Pioneers tallied six errors to the Duhawks' three. Both teams recorded 10 hits apiece.
The Pioneers kicked off the evening with a two-out rally scoring two runs in the opening frame. With two gone, sophomore Evan Greco started the rally with a single, and junior Zach Demmon continued it with a single of his own. Freshman George Jester III cleared the bases with a two RBI triple to deep center field, 2-0.
Two errors by UW-Platteville helped the Duhawks take a 3-2 lead in the third with only one hit in the inning.
The Pioneers answered in the top of the fourth with a run to tie the game up at three apiece. Freshman Ryan Lehmann came through in the clutch with a two-out single up the middle.
With a little help from the Duhawks, the Pioneers managed to score three runs in the fifth on three hits and two errors. Greco blasted a three-run homer giving UW-Platteville a 6-3.
The Duhawks used a triple and a throw throwing error on the play to tie the game up 6-6 in the bottom of the fifth.
In the 10th inning, the Duhawks led the frame with a single and pushed the runner in scoring position on a sacrifice bunt and a batter later scored a on a walk-off single to left field.
Freshman Austin Daniels made his second career start and struck out four in three innings of work and allowed three hits and three runs (two earned). Junior Shane Murphy suffered the loss throwing 1.1 relief innings.
Greco extended his hitting streak to nine games with a 3-for-5 night with three RBIs and two runs scored.
The Pioneers return to WIAC play on Saturday and Sunday when they travel to UW-Stout for a four-game weekend series.
