Paul Erickson's appointment as interim athletic director was announced November 28, 2023 by University of Wisconsin-Platteville Chancellor Dr. Tammy Evetovich.

Erickson's appointment followed the unexpected passing of Dr. Kristina Navarro-Krupka, athletic director and assistant chancellor, earlier in the month.

"Dr. Navarro-Krupka left an indelible mark not only on our athletic programs, but our entire campus," said Chancellor Evetovich. "As we continue navigating this challenging time following the loss of our colleague and friend, I am grateful to Paul for stepping into this role and offering reassurance and guidance as we move forward. He brings a wealth of experience and will provide the leadership needed."

Erickson joined the UW-Platteville Athletic Department in December 1996, serving as the Sports Information Director for the 16 varsity teams. He became the director of communications and the public information officer in 2011, leading emergency management communications for wide-scale events, including a tornado and COVID-19. He chaired many university-wide committees, including the mascot and Homecoming.

"I can't think of a better way to honor my colleague and friend Kristina Navarro-Krupka than continuing her legacy of excellence in the athletic department," said Erickson. "They are big shoes to fill, but I look forward to working with the coaches, staff and student-athletes in this interim role."

Erickson oversees the 16 NCAA Division III athletic programs, as well as campus recreation and the Pioneer Activity Center.
