Student-Athlete Development Year 1 Pilot
Main Focus
- Monthly Rising Pioneers learning workshops
- Goal: To provide social engagement and mentorship opportunities for new Pioneers
- Redefined PSAAC purpose
- PSAAC representatives serve as Pioneer Leaders
- PSAAC representatives are the pilot group for supporting Rising Pioneers (Freshmen)
Rising Pioneer member expectations to earn PLI certificate
- Attend and engage in four PLI developmental workshops with Pioneer Leaders each semester
PSAAC member expectations to earn PLI certificate
- Attend four monthly PSAAC Meetings
- Serve as the pilot group for PLI curriculum development and vetting
- Attend four Rising Pioneers workshops each semester
- Serve as a mentor for our four PLI Rising Pioneers developmental
Year One Student-Athlete Development Cohorts
Rising Pioneers (All New Student-Athletes)
The Pioneer Leadership Institute (PLI) Rising Pioneers experience will focus intently on personal leadership, identity development and career exploration. Special focus for Rising Pioneers will be on identity development, responsibility, accountability, decision making and character building. Pioneer Leaders and PSAAC representatives will serve as peer mentors and discussion leaders for the Rising Pioneers.

Program Objectives for Rising Pioneers
- Teach Rising Pioneers how to lead themselves effectively
- Ease the transition of Rising Pioneer student-athletes
- Create social connections between Rising Pioneer student-athletes
- Enhance career exploration and campus engagement
- Provide Rising Pioneers with peer mentors
- Facilitate social opportunities for student-athletes across sport programs
- Model the importance of respecting leadership
Pioneer Leaders (PSAAC)
In year one, PSAAC members will serve as the department’s Pioneer Leaders. This program will focus on developing strategies and skills to become effective personal and team leaders as well as mentors for new Pioneers. Program participation includes attending monthly PSAAC meetings and monthly personal development workshops with Rising Pioneer mentees. Pioneer Leaders will work hand-in-hand with the University's Chancellor's Scholars to serve as ambassadors of the University.

- Build a strong peer support network for aspiring leaders
