Pioneers name athletes of the week, Duax earns WIAC honors

Men's Basketball - Robert Duax, Junior (Dubuque, Iowa/ Hempstead), Guard/Forward - Duax averaged 17.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in two games during the week to help the Pioneers to a pair of wins to begin the 2017-18 season. In the season-opening 86-56 triumph over Waldorf University (Iowa) on Nov. 17, Duax had 15 points, five rebounds, and three assists and shot 66.7 percent (6-of-9). In a 74-57 win over No. 15-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (Calif.) on Nov. 18, Duax recorded 19 points and three rebounds. His 13 second half points helped the Pioneers outscore the Staggs 45-28 after halftime. *For his efforts Duax was named the WIAC Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week.

Women's Basketball - Morgan Horstman, Junior (Bangor, Wis.), Guard - Horstman averaged 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in helping lead UW-Platteville to a split this weekend at UW-River Falls. She finished with 21 points, four rebounds and three assists in UW-Platteville's 67-70 loss against St. Norbert College on Nov. 17, 9-of-14 from the field and a perfect three-of-three at the free throw line. Horstman finished with 15 points and five rebounds in the Pioneers' victory over St. Olaf on Nov. 18. She shot 53.3 percent (16-of-30) from the field and 80 percent (four-of-five) at the line in the two games.

Wrestling - Jon Goetz, Junior (West Bend, Wis./West), 174 pounds - Goetz moved to 9-0 on the season as he earned a 1st place finish at the Augsburg Invitational. His wins included two technical falls, followed by a 3-2 semi-final victory over Sawyer Massie (LaCrosse) and a 7-3 victory over Tanner Vassar (Augsburg) in the championship bout.

Men's Cross Country - Zach Lee, Junior (Franklin, Wis.) - Lee earned his first All-American honor finishing 30th at the NCAA Championships. After falling back during the middle of the race, Lee worked his way back into All-American status crossing the finish line in 24:53. This was Lee's first appearance at a national championship.

Women's Cross Country - Katie Wardinski, Junior (West Allis, Wis./Central) - Wardinski was the Pioneers' top finisher at the NCAA Championships. This was her first time competing at a national meet and finished 99th running a time of 22:13.
