Cross Country Opens Season At Pioneer Gender Equity Invite
CUBA CITY, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville cross country teams opened the 2024 season at the annual Pioneer Gender Equity Invitational on Saturday morning, with the men’s team taking second and the women’s team placing third from Cole Acres Golf Course in Cuba City, Wisconsin.

Men's Highlights
Three freshmen were among the top five for the Pioneers, with freshman Max Voss taking eighth overall behind a time of 27:03.6 in his first collegiate meet. Freshman Hayden Treibold crossed the line in 27:26.3 to take 11th overall, while junior Joshua Stone was one spot behind him at 27:29.0.
The next two scorers for UW-Platteville were freshman Max Sorgenfrey, who posted a time of 27:32.1 to take 14th overall. Sophomore Paul Treiber finished the race about four seconds later at 27:36.0 to claim 15th overall.
Sophomore Phillip Dart (27:39.3) and freshman Matt Bootman (27:41.9) rounded out the top seven for the Pioneers by placing 16th and 17th, respectively.
Women's Highlights
Junior Avery Brown was the top women's finisher for UW-Platteville, as she took ninth overall with a time of 24:26.6.
The final four scorers finished in close succession for the Pioneers, led by junior Leah Digmann's 15th-place finish at 25:03.6. Freshman Caitlin Wirth took 16th at 25:10.7 and sophomores Megan Hageman (25:24.2) and Kendra Downing (25:29.7) finished back-to-back for 19th and 20th, respectively.
Freshman Elsa Temples was the sixth Pioneer to cross the line at 26:21.5 for 24th and junior Angela Meiners rounded out the top seven at 26:41.3, which was good for 27th.

The Pioneers will compete at the Gil Dobbs Invitational next Saturday, September 21. The meet will take place at St. James Farm in Winfield, Illinois.
