Cross Country Competes At WIAC Championships
PRESCOTT, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville cross country teams ran at the 2023 WIAC Cross Country Championships (presented by Culver’s) hosted by UW-River Falls on Saturday afternoon at the Prescott High School Course in Prescott, Wisconsin. The Pioneers men’s team placed fourth, while the women came in seventh.

The Pioneers men's team placed fourth, while the women came in seventh.
Men's Highlights
UW-Platteville totaled 123 points to finish fourth in the field of eight teams. UW-La Crosse won the meet with 22 points and were closely followed by UW-Whitewater, who took second with 41 points. UW-Stout placed third just ahead of the Pioneers with 117 points.
Sophomore Caden Schneider was the top finisher for the Pioneers, placing eighth overall behind a personal-best time of 24:59.1.
The next two UW-Platteville scorers crossed the finish line back-to-back, led by senior Caleb Christiansen, who ran a personal-best 25:49.2 for 30th. Sophomore Isaiah Kruckman also ran a PR for 31st at 25:50.2.
Junior Jakob Eggen was the fourth runner to finish for the Pioneers, taking 36th overall with a PR time of 25:56.0. Freshman Zachary Sporaa rounded out the top five, placing 43rd with a season-best mark of 26:00.4.
Junior Davin Dahl earned a spot on the Men's All-Sportsmanship Team after the race.
Women's Highlights
The Pioneers placed seventh with a total of 183 points, while UW-La Crosse won by totaling just 29 points. UW-Eau Claire came in second with 46 points.
Senior Hannah Fliss was the top UW-Platteville finisher, crossing the line 15th overall behind a personal-best time of 22:46.9.
Junior Natalie Kreier and sophomore Avery Brown were the next two scorers, placing 45th and 47th, respectively. Kreier ran a 24:02.6, while Brown posted a PR at 24:09.0.
Freshman Kendra Downing finished 55th overall with a season-best time of 24:40.1, while sophomore Leah Digmann rounded out the top five for UW-Platteville with a 63rd-place finish behind a PR time of 25:00.2.
Junior Lydia Oakleaf was named to the Women's All-Sportsmanship Team following the meet.
