Pioneers Run at WIAC Championships
WEST SALEM, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville cross country teams competed at the WIAC Cross Country Championships hosted by UW-Whitewater on Saturday afternoon, with both the men’s and women’s teams placing seventh at the Maple Grove Venue in West Salem, Wis.
WEST SALEM, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville cross country teams competed at the WIAC Cross Country Championships hosted by UW-Whitewater on Saturday afternoon, with both the men's and women's teams placing seventh at the Maple Grove Venue in West Salem, Wis.
The men totaled 191 points while the women tallied 208 points, as both teams placed seventh in the field of eight teams. UW-La Crosse claimed the championship on both sides, placing all five scorers inside the top 10 in both races.
Sophomore Logan Bell was the top finisher for the men's team, placing 15th overall in the field of 92 with a time of 25:26.7. Senior Troy Humpal crossed the line next, finishing 43rd at 26:24.2. Sophomore Joey Madsen was just a couple seconds behind Humpal, posting a time of 26:28.9 for 50th overall. Sophomores Riley Coulter (26:50.8) and Korbin Eisler (27:02.6) were the final two scorers for UW-Platteville, placing 59th and 66th.
Senior Kaitlyn Galgon finished 42nd overall in the field of 92 with a time of 24:21.3 to pace the women's team. Freshman Caitlin Goroge was close behind, taking 44th overall 24:24.2. Freshman Avery Brown and sophomores Natalie Kreier and Hannah Fliss were consecutive finishers for the Pioneers, placing 57th, 58th, and 59th, respectively. Brown posted a time of 25:18.6 to lead to trio, while Kreier (25:20.4) and Fliss (25:22.9) followed.
The Pioneers run in two weeks at the NCAA North Regionals hosted by St. Olaf. The meet will take place at the St. Olaf Cross Country Trails in Northfield, Minn.
