CUBA CITY, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville cross country program hosted the annual Pioneer Gender Equity Invite at Cole Acres Golf Course Saturday morning. The men's team claimed first place out of seven teams while the women's team finished third of seven teams.
The invite is a unique event of its own. Exactly two minutes and 40 seconds after the men's 8,000m race began, the women's 6,000m race started. At the finish line, both races finish simultaneously, igniting competition between all runners.
Sophomore Logan Bell won the men's race with a time of 26:25.5 while senior teammate Troy Humpal was right behind and posted a personal best time of 26:29.0 to claim second place. Three more Pioneers finished in the top seven which included sophomores Joseph Madsen (26:48.9 - personal best), Davin Dahl (26:54.7 – personal best) and Riley Coulter (27:07.5).
In the women's race, senior Kaitlyn Galgon paced the Pioneers with an 8th place finish and time of 24:21.9. Also finishing in the top 15 were freshman Caitlyn Gorge (24:44.0- personal best) and junior Hannah Fliss (24:49.2 – personal best).
Finishing ahead of UW-Platteville was Ripon College and Viterbo.
The Pioneers return to action on Friday, Sept. 30 when they head to Colfax, Wisconsin for the UW-Eau Claire Blugold Invite.
*With every UW-Platteville win this year, the Platteville A&W will be offering a $3 Pioneer burger the day after the win and the Platteville Taco John's will be offering 10 tacos for $10 the day after each Pioneer win.
