Pioneer cross country takes on Oshkosh Open Friday
Whitewater, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin – Platteville cross country team traveled a partial squad to the Oshkosh Open hosted at UW-Whitewater’s campus course to compete one last time before the WIAC Cross Country Championships.
Whitewater, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin – Platteville cross country team traveled a partial squad to the Oshkosh Open hosted at UW-Whitewater's campus course to compete one last time before the WIAC Cross Country Championships.
Finishing first for the UW-Platteville men's cross country team was junior Nick Hein. Hein ran 28:00.2 to finish in seventh place overall. Freshmen Brett Grisar and Aaron Simays battled their way to 19th and 20th place respectively. Grisar crossed in 28:47.8 and Simays followed in 28:51.4. Logan Hipps, also a freshman, finished in 29:06.3.
Tyler Doering and Troy Humpal completed the race as the Pioneers' sixth and seventh runners on the day. Doering finished in 29:08.1, and Humpal crossed in 29:13.7.
Running for the Pioneer women, Kat Salis ran a lifetime best race of 28:36.0 breaking the 29 minute barrier for the first time. Samantha Meyer crossed the finish line also with a lifetime best time of 29:24.8. Mackenzie Parrell and Katie Ganzer finished the 6,000m race in 31:06.7 and 33:26.8 respectively.
The Pioneer men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the 2019 WIAC Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 2. The men's 8,000m race will begin at noon and the women's 6,000m race will start at 1pm. The championships will be hosted by UW-Platteville at Cole Acres Golf Course located in Cuba City, Wisconsin.
