Zach Lee named WIAC cross country Men's Athlete of the Year
Madison, Wis. – The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced the Men's Athlete of the Year for the 2018 cross country season to be UW-Platteville's Zach Lee. He is the fourth Pioneer to be awarded Men's Athlete of the Year by the WIAC since the inaugural year of the award in 2009. Alumni of the program, Jason Garvens, Men's Athlete of the year in 2009, and Ian LaMere, awarded in 2015 and 2016, have also received the award.
Lee, a senior from Franklin, Wisconsin, completed his last season of cross country with First Team All-Conference and All-Region honors. At the WIAC Cross Country Championships as well as the Midwest Region Cross Country Championships, Lee finished in second place. Lee was the highest finishing student-athlete from the WIAC at the Midwest Region Cross Country Championships.
The finale of his cross country career came at the NCAA DIII Cross Country Championships. Lee placed 9th and took home NCAA All-American honors. Lee was second to UW-La Crosse's Josh Schraeder as the highest finishing student-athlete from the WIAC at the NCAA DIII Cross Country Championships.
