Cross Country Men and Women earn All-Academic Honors
For the second consecutive year, the men's and women's cross country teams were honored by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association with 2017 NCAA Division III All-Academic honors.
The Pioneer women were named All-Academic Team for the fourth consecutive year, after compiling a cumulative grade point average of 3.38 on a 4.0 scale. The men's team was named All-Academic Team after achieving a cumulative grade point average of 3.21. To be recognized for All-Academic Team honors, teams must achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.10.
Aside from the team's All-Academic Honors, there were five individuals who were named All-Academic Individuals. To qualify for All-Academic honors as an individual, student-athletes must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and finish in the top 25 percent of their regional championship meet.
On the women's team, three were named All-Academic Individuals; Johanna Meister, Katie Wardinski, and Janelle Ferguson. Out of the 263 finishers, Meister finished in 11th place, Wardinski in 15th place, and Ferguson in 54th place at the NCAA DIII Midwest Regional Championships this past fall. This was Wardinski's second year in a row earning All-Academic honors.
Two student-athletes on the men's team were recognized as All-Academic Individuals, Zach Lee and Walker Rynes. Among the 254 finishers, Lee finished fourth at the NCAA DIII Midwest Regional. Senior Walker Rynes finished in sixth place. For Junior Zach Lee, this is the third consecutive year earning Cross Country All-Academic honors.
