Teamwork Highlighted Season Opener at Tom Hoffman Invite
The UW-Platteville Cross Country teams opened the season at the Tom Hoffman Invitational hosted by UW-Whitewater. Many runners used the competition partly as a training race with many of the Pioneer runners running in pairs.
The UW-Platteville Cross Country teams opened the season at the Tom Hoffman Invitational hosted by UW-Whitewater. Many runners used the competition partly as a training race with many of the Pioneer runners running in pairs.
The women opened competition and were led by freshman Brenna Kautz. Kautz finished 28th out of 156 runners with a time of 27:04. The pair of Anna Drazkowski and Katie Wardiski finished next with times of 28:23 (51st) and 28:24 (52nd) respectively. Krystin Sheyko and Johanna Meister crossed in 29:13 (67th) and 29:14 (68th). Janelle Ferguson and Danielle Nelson rounded out the Pioneer top-7 in 75th and 76th with a time of 29:31. The women's team finished 6th out of 15 teams with 209 points. UW-LaCrosse won the team competition with 26 points.
The men's team also finished 6th overall. Hosts UW-Whitewater won the 13 team competition with 42 points, edging out UW-LaCrosse by 4 ponits. Devin Johnson and Zach Lee led the Pioneers in 29:32, 37th and 38th respectively out of 165 runners. Cory Flood and Cole Shurbert-Hetzel were next in 29:44 (46yh and 47th). Grant Munson and Alex Clark ere next in 29:52 (52nd and 53rd). Timothy Knobloch rounded out the Pioneer top-7 in 30:00 (56th).
The Pioneers will be back in full force on Friday competing at Augustana College.
