The Pioneers competed at the NCAA Regional meet Saturday. The UW-Oshkosh hosted meet saw two Pioneer men and two Pioneer women in the top-35, earning All-Region status.

Ian LaMere repeated as WIAC Conference Champion in record fashion Saturday afternoon. LaMere pulled away early from the field and ran a solo effort for the 8 kilometer course. He crossed the finish in 23:56, the fastest winning 8K time in WIAC History. This marks the 8th time since 2000 that the Pioneers have claimed the men’s individual title, more than the next four WIAC teams combined.

The UW-Platteville Cross Country teams competed at the Oshkosh Open Friday. The Pioneer men just missed the win finishing second with 29 points, 3 points behind UW-Stevens Point’s 26 points. Five total teams competed on the men’s side.

The UW-Platteville cross country teams split their squads this weekend. The Pioneer’s top runners went to compete at the Louisville Classic on Saturday and preview the course that will host the NCAA Championships this year. A second group headed to the Blugold invite hosted by UW-Eau Claire on Friday.

This season the Cross Country Pioneers will be led by Ian LaMere, who returns after having competed for Team USA at the under-23 North American and Central American Championships in El Salvador this summer. LaMere qualified to the U-23 NACAC by having the fastest time for an American under 23 years of age in the 10,000m during the 2016 Track and Field season.
