NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced UW-Platteville's Ian LaMere (Green Bay, Wis. /Southwest) as the Division III National Athlete of the Week.
"Everybody expected the men's race at the WIAC Championships to be a two-man battle between UW-Platteville's Ian LaMere and UW-Eau Claire's Josh Thorson.
That was until LaMere had other ideas.
LaMere surged after the first mile and there was no catching him. He beat Thorson by 41 seconds to earn the individual title. LaMere's winning time of 24:07.3 was the fastest 8K time in the history of the WIAC Championships.
LaMere and the Pioneers will race again in two weeks at the Midwest Regional."
