MADISON, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville's Ian LaMere was named men's cross country Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Runner of the Week for the second time this year, announced by the league office on Tuesday.
LaMere was the top WIAC finisher at the UW-Eau Claire Blugold Invite at the Whitetail Golf Course on Oct. 3. He finished fourth overall out of over 400 runners, in a time of 24:44.7, which was a PR by 14 seconds. LaMere took the lead just before three miles, but was passed in the last mile by three runners, including eventual winner Grant Wintheiser from St. Olaf College (Minn.), who finished third individually at last year's NCAA Division III Championship.
LaMere claimed his first weekly honor last month after winning the Warhawk Invitational on Sept 13.
UW-Platteville will host the Pioneer Gender Equity Invitational on Saturday. The men will start the meet at 10:30 a.m. followed by the women at 10:33 a.m., so both genders will finish roughly the same time.
